Kathleen’s image is very positive. She values “pro-choice”
and education most. She is a positive role model going to schools and functions
that promote children’s learning. She has the image of a mother, a caretaker
but also a strong leader and woman. To
be more successful she may just want to try and be less formal when there are
opportunities for that. It would let people think of her as an equal to them
and they may be able to connect better with her.
Sebelius at Cool Springs Elementary School
in Adelphi, Maryland.
A SWOT
analysis for Kathleen would show her strengths as being she has been re-elected
for second terms, and is a woman. Her weaknesses may be her resignation that
she went through while holding the office of Health and Human Services
Secretary, as for opportunities she is a woman, and she has ran and held many
positions in the past. Her threats may be that she is a democrat, and that most
people say it’s now time for the Republican Party to take over.
Sebelius
accepting her nomination by President Barack Obama as Secretary of Health and
Human Services.
Sebelius has many political
positions, starting with her position on being “pro-choice”. She initiated adoption incentives, extended
health services for pregnant woman, sex education and a variety support
services for families. Planned Parenthood has endorsed her and they have
fundraising activities on her behalf.
Drug importation is another
position sebelius takes she adopted a state drug importation program in 2004 to
help her constituents afford prescription medication.
But education is a big one that shows
positivity for her image. Sebelius made education funding her top priority.
Education funding reached a breaking point in the summer of 2005 when the
Kansas Supreme Court ordered the Legislature to increase K-12 funding. She
however offered one education plan for funding early in her first term. This
consisted of property, sales, and income tax increases, which resulted in 2006
as the largest k-12 education funding increase in the history of the state.
As far as environment issues she
requested in 200 that $200 million be allotted from the US government to
support the Department of Energy Biomass and Biorefinery systems Research and
Development Program. She also pushes for widespread recycling efforts. When
Sebelius held office for Health and Human Services Secretary, she had the role
in the development of regulations governing hydraulic fracturing.
Overall in
the campaign for 2016 I think Kathleen will highlight on education as much as
possible since there has been a lot of controversy lately with the passing of
legislation and ideas recently. She should highlight on education because not
only will it brighten her image even more but also it is something that truly
all families can relate to. The people want good for their children and if they
don’t have children they still want good for the future of their world.
Sebelius is running on her top priorities of pro-choice,
education, and environmental positions. With this education will be her focal
point.

I think you did a great job providing information on her political stances, but I am more interested in the her resignation. What happened? Was there a lot of bad press or was the move criticized by the media?
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Nick, what happened with her? Do you think it could affect her for any future elections for office?
ReplyDeleteSebelius wasn't pushed to resign the choice was ultimately hers. There was an interview (i'll attach link) where she clearly states that she wanted to leave already at the end of the president's first term, but she stuck around to finish the job. I think will all she said in this interview that her resignation won't hurt her in this coming election.
