writing from Sebelius. This is about her stand on Obamacare. The personal
statement that is most memorable to me is when she says, “If you're self-employed, between jobs, or can't get insurance
through work, you'll have access to affordable health insurance as good as
Congressman Paul Ryan's. That's what change looks like.” Whether I agree or not
I think this goes to show that Sebelius is really here for the people and wants
to make changes in our government that support everyone not just the upper
class.
Try
to "read between the lines." What is the candidate saying? What is
the candidate not saying?
Her political language is very
professional and makes her sound very official. For example “The law gives tax credits
to 360,000 small businesses so they can give their employees coverage and an
array of affordable, private insurance plans to choose from.” Just buy speaking
and adding in numbers, statistics and facts she seems more credible. She could
have been more successful but as far as her earning spots in office I would say
that her political language is sufficient.
Trying to “read between the line”. I
believe that my candidate is saying that she backs Obama and as a democrat she
has some of the same beliefs. But what she isn’t saying is that Obamacare is
the best or only solution. I think she does agree with her statement that it will
help those that are jobless, self-employed or in between jobs more opportunity.
More importantly one of the main
things that I believe Sebelius is always trying to convey in her speeches but
also in this particular speech is her fight for equal woman rights. For
example, (and this is one of many) “And under
Obamacare, insurance companies can no longer discriminate against women.
Before, some wouldn't cover women's most basic needs, like contraception and
maternity care, but would still charge us up to 50 percent more than men—for a
worse plan.” I truly believe that within this entire speech she is reaching out
for woman generally.

I see this speech came right before the 2012 Presidential election. Given this, do you think that her political language helped persuade those who were against the Obama administration?
ReplyDeleteHonestly no not really because her political language in this particular speech sort of reiterated Obama administration. She agrees with most factors.
ReplyDeleteI liked the point that you made with providing the quote in showing that she is for the people, it provided quality evidence. However, do you think that her stance on healthcare may hurt her chances of winning an election since it is a variation of that of Obama's? After all healthcare is a controversial topic and she took a defining stance on it.
ReplyDeleteI do think that that is a huge threat if she runs for office again because so many people are against Obama care and quite frankly just done with Obama in general. But after the polling blogger we just did, it showed that people understood that Kathleen or anyone else in the position she was in couldn't have made or make things better. So it's kind of a toss up.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point about her being closely linked to Obama, and that may hurt her right now. Perhaps it won't be such a bad thing after some time passes. If she ran in '20, or '24 she will be looked at in a postive light--when the smoke clears. Perhaps she could even get Obama to help her campaign himself in 2020 and he won't be such a lightning rod for criticism.
